Hever Castle

Hever Station can be reached by train from London in just under 45 minutes. Please visit the Train Line website to purchase tickets. The walk from the station to Hever Castle takes around 25 minutes. Alternately, you can exit the train one stop prior at Edenbridge Town Station and take a 3 mile taxi ride to Hever Castle.

Hever Castle began as a country house, built in the 13th century. From 1462 to 1539, it was the seat of the Boleyn family. Anne Boleyn, the second queen consort of King Henry VIII of England, spent her early youth there after her father, Thomas Boleyn, inherited it in 1505. The castle passed to him upon the death of his father, Sir William Boleyn. It later came into the possession of King Henry VIII’s fourth wife, Anne of Cleves.

Directions from London: Start at the Victoria Station or the London Bridge Station.

You can get to the Victoria Station by taking the Circle Line, District Line, or Victoria Line.

To get to the London Bridge Station, you can take the Jubilee Line or Northern Line.

From either of these stations, you can take the train to Edenbridge Town Station or Hever Station. From Edenbridge, you can take a taxi. Hever Station is unmanned and you would need to walk from here. I chose to walk and it was a very nice pastoral walk for the most part. To see the walking map, click here.
